App of the Week: eFax

April 14th, 2014

It’s hard to believe but sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where you need to send a fax to someone instead of an email with an attachment. And there is no fax machine near you! So in those instances, you will LOVE eFax. No need to go any further than your tablet or smartphone to beg someone to let you borrow their fax machine. Yep, there’s an app for that!

From the developer:

Free fax app puts the power of a fax machine right on your phone or tablet. Send and receive faxes with the eFax® mobile app and your eFax account.

• Create and send faxes using your device camera, cloud storage, or email attachments – just like a mobile fax machine.
• Sign faxes with your finger on screen or snap a pic of your signature.

• Add text to faxes on screen to fill out forms, add signature dates, or markup text. Eliminate the need to print, sign, and scan documents.
• Use cover sheets and contact lists to easily personalize and send faxes using your phone contact list or your eFax contact list.
• Share faxes via email as PDF attachments.

Pretty spiffy, right?

Consumer Cafe: Baked Chicken and Orzo

April 11th, 2014

I think I’m going to try to limit my chicken recipes to once a month. Seems I’ve been on the hunt lately for lots of new chicken recipes. I’d be smart to go look at some old ones – because they would be new again by now! Here’s an easy recipe from tastykitchen.com.

Baked Chicken and Orzo

  • 1 stick Butter, Divided
  • 4 whole Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Pepper
  • 1 whole Shallot, Chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 1 pound Mushrooms, Sliced
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Sage, Chopped
  • 1 package Orzo Pasta (16 Oz. Package)
  • 32 ounces, fluid Chicken Broth

Preheat oven to 375 F. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper and add them into the melted butter in a single layer (depending on the size of your skillet you may need to do this in batches adding another 2 tablespoons of butter in between). Brown chicken for 3 minutes, turn and brown the second side for 1 minute. Remove to a plate and keep warm.

In a large stockpot over medium heat, melt ¼ cup butter. Add shallots and garlic to butter, and cook and stir constantly for 1 minute. Add mushrooms and sage. Cook until the mushrooms just begin to soften. Add orzo. Stir and cook until orzo is lightly toasted and fragrant.

Pour the orzo mixture into a 13 x 9 baking dish. Top with the chicken breasts. Pour chicken stock over the orzo and chicken. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until chicken reaches 165 F and liquid has been absorbed into the pasta.

Glam Alert: Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cream Cleanser

April 10th, 2014

Big fan of Olay skin products. My go-to face scrub was Olay Total Effects Face Scrub. But as I was looking over the Olay products to replace my empty tube, I found the Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cream Cleanser. They get me every time with words like “Brightening”. And you know they know it! So I bought it, and love it! I keep the tube in the shower and wash my face with the scrub in the mornings.  In the evenings I use the Clarisonic. Although I am tempted to get another tube to use with the Clarisonic too. The Olay Regenerist Luminous Brightening Cream Cleanser doesn’t seem to have as many exfoliating micro beads as the Olay Total Effects Face Scrub, even though it is still an exfoliating scrub. What I do seem to notice in this one is the brightening effect. I’m sure it’s not just in my mind. It’s also creamier than the Total Effects Scrub, so my face feels clean and soft after use. My husband uses it too, and he says he prefers this to the other Olay Scrub.

And, as an added endorsement, I went to see my friend Sally recently and made her try it, and she REALLY loved it! I’m sure she immediately went out and purchased her own tube. Didn’t you Sally?
