Consumer Cafe: Crock Pot Black Eyed Peas and Ham

December 27th, 2013

Do you want to have a great 2013? Well, you have to start by having your black eyed peas ready to eat on New Year’s Day! I love black eyed peas, and I love anything I can throw in the crock pot. So it’s a win-win for me. Here’s a great recipe to make on January 1st so you start your year off on the right foot!

Black Eyed Peas and Ham (recipe from food.com)

1 (16 ounce) bag dried black-eyed peas
1 small ham hock
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can Del Monte zesty jalapeno pepper diced tomato
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chilies
2 (10 1/2 ounce) cans chicken broth
1 stalk celery, chopped
Directions:

1.  Pre-soak black-eyed peas according to the instructions on the bag.
2.  Combine all ingredients and cook on low for 9-10 hours.

Now, if you want to be rich in 2013, I’d throw a little cabbage in the mix – cabbage is supposed to bring you $$$$, and black eyed peas are good luck!

Glam Alert: Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder

December 26th, 2013

Santa got the Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for me and I love it so much I had to tell you about it right away so you could get some before you go out on New Year’s Eve. Not that you need to go out to wear it, because it gives such a subtle shimmer I will wear it just to feel sassy! I love that it has a separate compartment for the brush! And trust me, at any age you would love this, but when you get to be my age, a little extra glow never hurts!

From Urban Decay:

Get Naked from head to toe. This soft, glowing powder from Urban Decay contains a sophisticated, microfine shimmer. Dust it on anywhere you want to create an instant glow. This smooth, silky formula contains light-reflecting particles that create a luminous, radiant look. Now you can get that Naked glow anytime, anywhere. (And yes, this is ONE instance where it’s OK to fake it.) This lightweight, shimmering powder is baked on a terra cotta disc for 24 hours and then hand-finished, just like Urban Decay’s popular Baked Bronzer. Baking the formula gives Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder a high level of shimmer (without the metallic look of cheaper formulas). It also provides the color payoff of a loose powder, with the convenience of a pressed powder. The perfect way to get (or give) Naked, this shimmering powder comes in a gorgeous rose-gold box and makes the perfect gift for any Naked fan. Includes a generous mirror and a brush

Merry Christmas

December 25th, 2013

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see
A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear
A song, a song
High above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepard boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know
In your palace wall mighty king
Do you know what I know
A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say
The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
