Website of the Week: swellcaroline.com

September 12th, 2012

You know I am crazy about jewelry.

swellcaroline.com has some fabulous pieces. I am still waiting for my husband to get me a monogrammed acrylic necklace. Honey, this is a great one!

They have lots of different styles for your monogrammed necklace. You can just get one initial.

I’m crazy for this orb necklace.

And how cute are these glitter bangles, and for only $12! Who doesn’t love a little bling?

Do you have a favorite online jewelry shop? Leave me a comment. I love finding new places to shop!

App of the Week: Key Ring

September 10th, 2012

You know all those pesky cards you have to carry for your rewards/discounts at every grocery store or big chain stores? I actually had a separate card holder in my purse for about ten of those things. Well, ta-da, there’s an app for that. The Key Ring app stores all those cards in one spot on your smartphone. Simple to use, you just enter each card’s info into the app, and then when you are at the store ready to check-out you pull up that specific card on the app and it has a scan code for the checker to scan. I would suggest doing this before going in, it does take a moment or two and you don’t want someone behind you hitting you!

Consumer Cafe: Lemon-Poppy Seed Zucchini Bread

September 7th, 2012

I love Lemon Bread. I love Poppy Seed Bread. I love Zucchini Bread.  Imagine how much I love this recipe?

Lemon-Poppy Seed Zucchini Bread (From Southern Living Magazine)

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded zucchini
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds
  1. Preheat oven to 325°. Beat butter at medium speed with a heavy-duty electric stand mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating just until blended after each addition.
  2. Stir together flour, salt, and baking soda. Add to butter mixture alternately with sour cream, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat at low speed just until blended after each addition. Stir in zucchini and next 2 ingredients. Spoon batter into 3 greased and floured 5- x 3-inch disposable aluminum foil loaf pans (about 1 1/3 cups batter per pan).
  3. Bake at 325° for 40 to 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks, and cool completely (about 30 minutes).

Glam Alert: Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover

September 6th, 2012

There are lots of expensive eye makeup removers out there. But really, why would you? You just need something that will remove your eye makeup, especially my four layers of mascara, with one or two quick swipes. I use Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover. Just as it says on the bottle, it’s effective and gentle, removes even waterproof mascara, and leaves no oily residue. It doesn’t burn or sting. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, and cost less than $6.50 a bottle. So, you can go to a department store and pay $40, or to a drugstore and pay a lot less, and then go buy yourself a present for saving so much money.
