My mother-in-law was recently diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. Macular Degeneration, simply put, is a condition that generally affects older adults and results in a loss of vision. It is a major cause of blindness in adults over the age of 50. I am not going to make this a medical post, but just wanted to tell you about a multivitamin that her specialist recommended she take, and that my husband take because the condition is hereditary: Centrum Specialist Vision. I bought a bottle for both of us, because I’ll try anything if it may help me to retain my vision as I get older.
Centrum Specialist Vision has all the benefits of a multivitamin, and higher levels of Lutein and the addition of Zeaxanthin to help maintain healthy vision, support vision sharpness, and improve the eye’s natural response to glare.
I didn’t know that Centrum had a line of “specialist” multivitamins now. You can check out all the different products at centrum.com.
I am not a doctor, and I don’t even play one on TV, so I am not giving you any sort of medical advice. I just wanted to share something that was really doctor recommended by a macular degeneration specialist.

My little granddog is spending his summer vacation with his grandparents. Okay, truth is my son is in Cabo and I am dogsitting. But to entertain myself, in between scratching his belly and giving his treats, I found this cute free app that amuses me.
You use the Dog Translator app by recording your dog’s barks, and then it translates to tell you what he is really saying. It’s a joke, of course, it’s not the Dog Whisperer app, but it still makes me smile.

Very easy to use. You just tap the screen when you are ready to record.

Then it records.

And then it translates!
Okay, stop laughing at me. I don’t have a grandchild, I just have a granddog, so this is what dog grandparents do!

I love fresh produce, and this time of year I make around 2-3 trips a week to my local farmer’s market. Paula Deen has a great salad recipe that gives me something delicious to make with some of that produce.

Paula Deen Summer Vegetable Salad
- 2 cups fresh green beans
- 3 carrots, peeled and cut into 2” long sticks
- ½ red onion (thinly sliced)
- ½ cup black olives, pits removed
- 1 seedless cucumber, thinly sliced
- 1 pint cherry tomatoes
For the marinade:
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons tarragon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Creole mustard
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
Fill a large bowl with ice water and set aside. Place a steaming basket inside a large saucepan with 1” of water and bring to a low boil. Add green beans and carrot sticks to steaming basket. Cover and cook until beans and carrots are cooked through but still have a slight crunch. Remove from steaming basket and immediately immerse in the ice water bath until cool. Remove from water and pat dry.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients. Add green beans, carrots, onions, black olives, cucumber and cherry tomatoes. Toss to coat. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

I have been a huge fan of Aussie products for years. Many, many years ago I started with Aussie’s Three Minute Miracle.

Aussie is a great product, that doesn’t come with a high price tag.
My new favorite is Aussie Moist Shampoo and Aussie Moist Conditioner. Both are 29.2 ounces, and come with a pump. So easy to use in my shower without having to drop and subsequently break the lid. It happens. Don’t pretend it doesn’t. The huge size is also a plus. The links above are to amazon.com, where each is sold in a set of two for $11, with free shipping. I could not find a combo set for sale on amazon.com but at this price you can split a purchase with your bestie, if you don’t want to store the extra set, or you can find these products at your favorite drugstore or megastore for around $5 each. That’s right, almost 30 ounces, for $5! And, not only is it inexpensive, but it really does make your hair clean and soft, and smells good!
