App of the Week: Wikipedia

March 5th, 2012

If you are familiar with Wikipedia you should already have this app on your smart phone. If not, download this free app. It allows you to use Wikipedia without having to open your browser first. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia written largely by anonymous volunteers. Some would argue that the information contained in Wikipedia may or may not be exactly accurate. For those of us who know no better, it appears to be a great, quick resource for information to outsmart your friends or family when you are having those deep discussions about life, science, geography, movies, books, etc., etc., etc.

The app allows you to bookmark articles for later reference or to read more thoroughly. If you forget to bookmark, no worries, because it keeps a history of items you have looked up until your clear it.

Don’t leave home without it. You may find yourself in a bar having a great debate with someone and you will surely come out more informed with this app. Wonder how the old people like me will ever explain to the kids who have always grown up with instant access to information how we used to have to go to a library and research for hours to find an answer that it accessible now within seconds? Gosh, I sound older and older by the second. . .

Glam Alert: Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

March 1st, 2012

I’ve blogged before about Marlena and her makeupgeek.com site. It has been fun to watch her grow in the last several years from a blog, and youtube instructional videos on applying makeup, to her own brand. She is beautiful, inside and out. She is a makeup artist by trade, and she knows her stuff. She first came out with a line of makeup brushes. I own several and they are really good quality. So, naturally, I had to try out her eyeshadows when the line came out. Now, they are my favorites. Highly pigmented and lots of beautiful shades to choose from. They all come depotted, so you can put in your own Zpalette or other container.

Here is my Zpalette with my Makeup geek eyeshadows:

Top row: Vanilla Bean, Unexpected, Cinderella

Middle row: Stealth, Latte, Taupe Notch

Bottom row: Fairytale, Twilight, White Lies

They all have magnetic bottoms so they attach to the Zpalette and do not move around. Makeupgeek.com carries 50 colors. Mine are all the matte finish, because I’m old and can’t pull off the shimmer, but if you are younger, you can. Each eyeshadow pan is $5.99.

I blogged before about how MAC had my favorite eyeshadow. No more MAC for me.  If you compare $18 for MAC vs. $6.00 for Makeup geek it’s a no brainer. Plus, the MUG (makeup geek) eyeshadows really seem to go on smoother and stay on better than MAC.

Have you tried any of the makeup geek products? Leave me a comment about your favorites.

Cuppow – Wow!

February 28th, 2012

Hardly anything would make me stray from my Starbucks container for my cold lattes. Until I found this. Everyone, at least in Texas, has some canning jars sitting around somewhere. And if you don’t can, or even if you do, this is a cute lid to put those jars to good use.

For $8.00 you can turn yours into a travel mug too. See the video and order information at cuppow.com.

Buy several. They will make great stocking stuffers too. And you can use for coffee, water, or sweat tea.
