Funny and inspirational refrigerator magnets

May 20th, 2011

I’ve been shopping at fridgedoor.com for years.

My favorites are the quotable magnets. I’ve got these all over my fridge, and they are great for gifts. I love giving quotable magnets to friends/family that need encouragement, support, or just a good laugh.

But they have a large selection of humor, super hero, animal, food, poetry, sports, celebrity, states, and city magnets too. You could spend hours and hours on this site stocking up on gifts. And remember my golden rule, always pick up a little somethin’ for yourself!

In addition to magnets, they have a large selection of Anne Taintor merchandise. You remember Anne Taintor.

The above is an air freshner, that gives off a tomato soup scent! HA! Large selection of Anne Taintor magnets, air freshners, flasks, coin purses, cosmetic bags, coasters, emery boards, key rings, luggage tags, and much more. I think you could spend hours just looking at Anne Taintor merchandise.

And, just in case you can’t get enough of Will and Kate, they have magnets for them too.

And if you are looking for custom magnets, this would be the place.

Glam Alert: Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate by Lancome

May 19th, 2011

If you haven’t reached the age yet where you will do anything, pay anything for younger looking skin; this post is not for you. Go ride your bike or something. I have always had good skin.  I have always taken really good care of my skin. Recently I received a free seven-day trial of Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate by Lancome and I think three days was all I really needed to be convinced. This is not for wrinkles, it just seems to make your skin much softer, those pores a little smaller, and you will not be able to stop touching your velvety skin! I think it makes your skin a little brighter, or as my husband said, “shiny”. I prefer glowing. Now this stuff is not cheap! It is very expensive. But it is concentrated, so a little goes a long way. I will tell you that it helps if you put on right after you clean your face, while your face is still a smidge moist, because it seems to go on easier and smoother and you don’t have to use as much. I also put on my neck and hands and can really tell a significant difference. You can order directly from Lancome, and get free shipping, and a lot of good size samples. I really hate to recommend something this expensive, because as I have told you before, my dermatologist always told me if it was that expensive it would have to come with a prescription. That being said though, I think when you reach a certain age (which was over 50 for me) you really need to step up your game. After all, I’m not a grandmother yet!

Personalized handkerchief

May 18th, 2011

When my son graduated from college, my dearest friend got me a bunch of really cute gifts to celebrate the occasion. It was a huge day for me, as I had never gone to college, and it meant the world to me that he went to college AND graduated. Yay Matthew! I got personalized key chains with his name and school, calling cards, similar to the father of the bride cards, except these were mother of the graduate cards, and my most favorite was a personalized handkerchief, with his name and school. I still treasure it. I looked on etsy.com, and you can find a lot of personalized handkerchiefs from several sellers. This was my favorite from gosiadesigns.  There are lots of thread colors to choose from, and you can choose lace or plain.

I just think it’s such a great idea for a wedding. You can give to parents, grandparents, bride, groom, bridesmaids, etc.  And of course mother of the graduate gift too!

Nostalgic candy for yourself or a gift

May 17th, 2011

Over the weekend, my husband and I had to go to McKinney, Texas.  It ended up being a nostalgic surprise trip for us! First, we stopped by a Dairy Queen – YUM – and had a dipped cone.Where have all the Diary Queens gone? Is it just a southern thing or are they all over the world? Wherever they are, they aren’t in my area anymore so it was fun to stop in and have a dipped cone. Years ago, every time my son and I took a road trip it was not complete without a pit stop at the DQ.

After we fueled up on DQ, we headed toward downtown McKinney, and found Mom and Popcorn. We had such a fun time in this store, and I brought home a ton of goodies, you know, for research to be able to give my dear readers a good review! I got some really cute stocking stuffers and birthday gifts of prepackaged candy that either I thought was funny or reminded me of olden days. Yeah, I said olden days. . .

In addition to the packaged candy and gum goodies, they also had a huge selection of assorted flavors of salt-water taffy.  All very fresh and delish. And, are you ready? Forty-five flavors of popcorn.  Now I didn’t try all 45 flavors of popcorn, or over 20 flavors of salt-water taffy, but I tried enough to tell you that this stuff is good! Good and plenty! I crack myself up sometimes. . .  They also carry a huge selection of lunch boxes, tins, pails, and gift boxes. A great gift idea to send to someone for birthday, get well, etc.

Which got me thinking about nostalgic candy, and how happy it makes me when I see something I haven’t seen or thought about in years. Not everything/everyone I haven’t seen or thought about in years makes me happy to see again, but nostalgic things really do.

I searched online and found nostalgiccandy.com. Made me all giddy inside. My favorite thing about this site is that you can order “decade boxes” filled with candy from a specific decade. What a great idea! Even better is the price. You can get a decade box for under $25. Sadly their free shipping doesn’t start until you purchase $175, and unless you want to order a lot of stuff at once I think that would be hard to reach.

I hope you take a trip down memory lane and check out these two sites. Let me know if you order anything!  Now that my research is over, I need to spend the rest of the day on the treadmill. Tootles!
