Violight UV Cellphone Sanitizer

April 23rd, 2013

We all know that I have germ issues. And we should all know that the cell phone is one of the dirtiest little gadgets around. Especially if you have young kids who want to touch your cell phone with their dirty little germy-germs. Enter the Violight UV Cellphone Sanitizer.

From Violight:

– Germicidal UV light kills strep, e.coli, salmonella, listeria, and H1N1 virus
– Perfect for home or office
– Makes a great gift
– Sanitizes in under 5 minutes
– Dual lifetime UV bulbs
– Uses 3 AA batteries
– Works with devices with the following max dims: 3 L x 0.75 W x 5 H inches (designed for flat phones and PDA’s. Not designed for flip phones or sliders)
I must tell you that I cringe when someone is on their cell phone and HANDS it to me to talk to the person on the other end. I literally hold it out where it isn’t touching my face or ear and then immediately go and wash my hands afterwards. All the while I think the other person is completely oblivious to the fact that I am completely grossed out. Never mind someone asking to use my cell phone.
Am I making you think of germs you never thought of before? I know, it’s a sickness.  I also have that handy grocery store list app on my cell phone that I use every time I am at the grocery store, at the same time touching that germy handle on the germy cart.
So happy every night to come home and stick the cell phone in the Violight Cell Phone Sanitzer. The world all makes sense again. Of course don’t think for a minute that the same cell phone doesn’t get wiped down immediately when someone borrows it. I have those germ killer wipes always close at hand.
But in all seriousness, in case you didn’t think I was being serious, which I was, for $30 this cell phone sanitizer is a great thing to have. My friend Patti purchased one for her office and keeps it on her desk. Everyone that comes in drops their cell phone in for a little quick cleaning. She should charge a fee! It would pay for itself in no time.
What is your favorite  cleaning gadget? Are you as obsessed with germs as I am?

Consumer Cafe: Rib Eye Steak with Onion Blue Cheese Sauce

April 19th, 2013

We fired up the grill last weekend and I wanted to share this yummy recipe from The Pioneer Woman. I love steak, and I love blue cheese, so what’s not to love about this recipe?

Rib Eye Steak With Onion Blue Cheese Sauce

  • 4 rib eye steaks (about 5 ounces each)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 stick softened butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 cup crumbled blue cheese

Preheat the grill to a high heat or light your outdoor grill.

Sprinkle the steaks with salt and pepper and smear both sides of the steaks with 1/2 stick of the butter.

Grill the steaks until medium-rare, 3 to 4 minutes per side, and then remove from the heat and keep warm. (You can also saute them in a skillet over medium-high heat if you prefer.)

Melt the remaining 1/2 stick of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat, and then saute the onions until golden brown, 7 to 8 minutes. Pour in the cream, a dash of salt and pepper and the Worcestershire sauce. Let it bubble up, then add the blue cheese and stir together to melt, adding more pepper or Worcestershire sauce as you wish.

Place the steaks on plates and spoon the sauce over the top.

Take a bite. And the world at long last will make sense.

Glam Alert: Glam Storage from Pottery Barn Teens

April 18th, 2013

The last place you may think to look for cute storage for your makeup or hair accessories is Pottery Barn Teen. That’s why I am here to help.

I recently saw this cute makeup organizer at a friend’s house and of course had to get all the deets for you!

This would be cute for a teenager but also cute for a glam girl like me. There is nothing “teen” about this. The smaller version is $59 and the larger version is $89. And as you can see, it comes personalized.

So, that led me to check out all the cute stuff at Pottery Barn Teen and I just had to share.

This cute storage box can be left out on the counter, or mounted on the wall.

And who doesn’t want this makeup case? L-O-V-E!
