This is a Weight Watchers recipe I have used for over ten years. It’s great to have on hand for when you are hungry but out of points. But it’s also yummy good for when you just want some warm soup. I have a friend who swears by this soup in her weight loss journey. The picture is not that pretty, so I opted to just give you photos of the ingredients you will need. I’m sure you can find chicken broth without seeing a picture of it!
Weight Watchers Potato Soup
- 1 bag frozen hash browns (pepper and onion flavor – Ore-ida Potatoes O’Brien)
- 2 cans fat free chicken broth
- 1 pkg Pioneer Fat Free country gravy mix
Simmer potatoes and chicken broth 10 minutes. Mix gravy with 1 cup cold water, add to potatoes and cook until thick.
You can also mix the gravy with the chicken broth and pour into crock pot with hash brown potatoes and heat on low for a few hours while you are out of the house.
1 cup = 1 point
I love this soup and so does my husband, but I can no longer find the Pioneer fat-free gravy mix! Do you know of an online source? Do you know how this recipe translates to the new point plus program?

I always get mine at my local Kroger supermarket. It’s not a store I visit on a regular basis so when I do I stock up on the packets! I looked on amazon.com, and it’s out of stock there but you can sign up to be notified when it’s back in stock. Hope that helps!

I just use regular potatoes and cut them up in small pieces. It’s much cheaper that way.

That is another way of doing it for sure! I’m much lazier so just buy the bag! Whatever you do it’s delish!

I have mad this soup and it is really good. you can also add bits of bacon, onion and green peppers. it tastes like a loaded bake potato then. I don’t remember if the bacon adds any more points or not, you would have to figure out how many point for how much bacon you put in and divide how many serving there are.

I used to make this potato recipe all the time but none of the stores in my town carry the no fat gravy mix. Where can I get it?

I have a hard time too! I can only find at one local supermarket. Try looking at their website for a store near you: http://www.pioneerbrand.com/pioneer-no-fat-country-gravy-mix/
Good luck!

Is it still considered 1 point per serving with the new program?
February 27, 2016 @ 12:49 pm
Sorry, you will have to check with Weight Watchers.
March 7, 2016 @ 5:47 pm
The whole recipe is 26 points plus.. doesn’t say how many servings so I don’t know how many points per serving. Might make it anyway – even if only 4 servings it’s still 7 points, and I think it should be over 4 servings.

I also only make this potato soup. I order the Pioneer No Fat Gravy Mix through Amazon. I also would like to know how many points/cup with the new system.

Not sure Kathy, if you have WW app, I’m sure you can calculate with new points system.

For 8 servings of this recipe (about a cup) SmartPoints is 4 SP per serving. : )

Thank You

I am not sure Colleen, this was when I was counting points with weight watchers. I can tell you under the old system it was one point, but i read recently under new plan, it’s about 5 points. Weight Watchers changed and counted more carbs in new system, and the WW program is changing again this week so it may also change.

Please specify the the size of the cans of the chicken broth.
Thank you.

Eva, this weight watcher recipe was under an old system. I don’t follow weight watchers anymore so i can’t give you any more than my original post. However, I did read recently that this is no longer a 1 point soup – under new WW program, which is changing again this week, it’s about 5 smart points.

I still follow an old WW plan and this is perfect!!! Thank you so much!! My entire family loves it!
