Glam Alert: Dickinson’s Witch Hazel

March 15th, 2012

Recently, Dr. Oz talked about using Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Pure Perfecting Toner as an inexpensive drugstore remedy for under eye bags. I don’t have under eye bags, although some people have called me an old bag.

Dickinson’s claims it is 100% natural and gently removes excess oil and impurities without stripping skin of essential moisture, refines pores*, and locks in moisture.

I can tell you that I started using this and gave away my old toner because I found that Dickinson’s left my skin clean, but not dry.

You can find it at most drugstores for under $5.

They also carry facial towelettes.

*I admit I had to look this up because I had no idea what refining pores would mean. I’ve heard of minimizing pores, and eliminating pores, but never refine pores. So, in case this is a new term for you too (and if it isn’t please don’t tell me I’m stupid), here is the explanation: Pores can get clogged with excess dirt and oil, making them appear larger and causing breakouts. However, pore refining products and techniques to cleanse the pores reduce the likelihood the pores will get clogged and enlarged.

Crystal Light Mocktails

March 13th, 2012

Last summer a friend of mine told me about the Crystal Light Mocktails. I looked and looked but never saw them in any supermarket in my area, until recently. Boy was I excited. It’s the little things, people.

The Crystal Light Mocktails come in three flavors: Mojito, Appletini, and Margarita. So far, I have only tried the Mojito. My only complaint is that there are five packets in each container, and each packet makes two quarts. So it’s great if you have a large family but not so great if you don’t feel like making a pitcher of Mojitos. I love Mojitos, and without the liquor, this taste nothing like a Mojito. I’m sure you can add your own alcohol to the mix, but I purchased them really just as a flavor to my bottled water, hence my complaint about the large packet size. Even with that in mind, I will purchase these again because I thought the Mojito had a minty lemonade taste and found it quite refreshing. If you are counting weight watcher points, it is zero, even for the entire 40-serving packet. That’s a win in my book.

Great app if you are into keeping lists, or goals, or projects. RTM – Remember the Milk – sounds like a grocery list app but it is so much more than that. RTM is a great organizational tool. I no longer have to look for the piece of paper that I wrote down a to-do item, or note about something upcoming, or any other things that a person must keep up with on a daily basis, because I always have my iPhone with me, and can enter on this app and even set a deadline for completion.
