Zyliss Cake Server with Detachable Blade

August 27th, 2013

How many times have you gone to slice a pie or cake and have the piece fall apart on you before you can get it plated? I saw the Zyliss Cake Server with Detachable Blade on HGTV’s I Want That, and I wanted it!

It has a serving blade included, that you can slide forward to release the slice onto your plate. Genius!

And for you germaphobes out there, it also means you can serve the slice without touching the food!

From Zyliss:

  • Innovative cake server ensures flawless presentation of cake, pie, quiche, and more
  • Stainless-steel blade with dual serrated edges suited to right- or left-handed users
  • Plastic upper blade propels servings forward for easy one-handed serving; ergonomic handle
  • Angled to fit into deep-dish pans; disassembles for fast cleanup; dishwasher-safe.

It’s $13 at Amazon, so a great gift idea for the cook in your bunch.

App of the Week: MY TSA

August 26th, 2013

If you are like me, and don’t travel on planes on a regular basis, the My TSA app will come in handy for you when packing for your flight.

Not only does it provide a list of things that you can carry on the plane, but also gives you real time information about flight delays, weather, and a portal to provide immediate feedback regarding your TSA checkpoint experience.

From My TSA:

With “My TSA”, from the Transportation Security Administration, you can:

+ Quickly search whether you can bring items with you through the checkpoint onto the airplane.
+ Check approximate wait times at TSA security checkpoints at the airport of your choice and add your own wait time for other to see.
+ Consult the TSA Guide on how to prepare for and get through the security checkpoint quickly. Watch TSA Videos on tips for a smooth travel experience.
+ See airport delay information for airports nationwide — and see how long are the delays.
+ Provide immediate feedback to TSA concerning your checkpoint experience.
+ Check the weather forecast and current weather conditions at any U.S. airport.

Hopefully this app will take some of the stress out of getting ready for your flight!

Consumer Cafe: Lemon Muffins

August 23rd, 2013

Here’s a light and yummy recipe from Southern Living Magazine. I haven’t met a recipe yet I didn’t like from Southern Living. Yum.

Lemon Muffins

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest

Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk together eggs, milk, melted butter, and lemon zest; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Spoon into a lightly greased 12-cup muffin pan, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden.

Glam Alert: Touch’n Brow Razor

August 22nd, 2013

I recently discovered these little razors at Sally’s Beauty Supply, and snatched up a bag of three for $4.50. I cannot believe I have gone this long without discovering them. They are PERFECT for cleaning up that peach fuzz you have around your sideburn area, not to mention it’s intended purpose, which is to style eyebrows. So much better than waxing!

And if you happen to know of a husband who occasionally gets a little hair on their earlobe, this is great for that too! Not that mine does, he would never want me to disclose that!
