Glam Alert: Original Sprout Leave-In Conditioner

November 15th, 2012

Today’s glam alert is brought to you by my sister-in-law, Nancy. She loves, loves, loves the Original Sprout Leave In Conditioner. She says, and I quote:

Original Sprouts Leave In Conditioner literally changed my life; I can go to bed with my hair wet, and wake up with great, non frizzy curls…..love it. Literally, life changing.

Well, if that doesn’t want you to run out and purchase it, I don’t know what will.

Nancy and my brother, Sean, have two small children. Nancy uses a number of Original Sprout Products; including the babywash, hairwash, and sunscreen on the kids, and uses the deep conditioner on herself and her daughter. She also uses a straightening cream and Tahitian oil. Oh, and the pomade and gel for her little boy. The only product Nancy has tried that she didn’t like was the spray detangler. She said it was a little too thick.

You can find all the products at originalsprout.com. All of the products are biodegradable, 100% vegetarian (vegan), free of phytoestrogens, soy, parabens, gluten, dixoanes from sulfates, phthalates and formaldehyde.

Website of the Week: wag.com

November 14th, 2012

wag.com, is another in the family of partnered sites that I have newly discovered.  I did a post last week about beautybar.com. wag.com is in this same group, where you can order from all the partnered sites in one  checkout. My friend says she can order her dog food for about $4 less than anywhere else and it gets delivered to her overnight for free.  That’s much better than lugging a big ol’ bag of dog food around, right?

wag.com carries products for your dog, cat, bird, fish, reptile, or small pet. They have over 25,000 products listed on their site. AND, they have free return shipping! Love that!

Now you all know I do not have a pet. But I do have a precious granddog, and I love to spoil him. However, since I’m not a big pet person, I do appreciate reading the reviews on the toys and treats, which are the things I would purchase for Ranger. And, because all these sites are partnered together, it is easy for me to just add a little treat or two for Ranger, when I am ordering from another site.

Could you resist this precious face? His grandmother spoils him silly!

Touch Screen Gloves

November 13th, 2012

Brrrrrrr. We are finally getting cold in Texas. I know some of you have probably been cold for a while. We get the heat, and you get the cold.

I got a pair of touch screen gloves last year for Christmas and really like them. Although I will be the first to admit I don’t really have a big need for them. 1) I’m never cold, and 2) I’m never outdoors. But I can see a need for them if you are. And, I know they make a great gift, because I really loved mine.

The touch screen gloves are not only great for operating your touch screen smartphone, but also those touch screen keypads at the gas station. They also work on your touch screen GPS, iPad, or iPod device.

You can find a variety of different types on amazon.com. Some are dressy, some casual, for men and women. You can also find them in the stocking stuffer price range or the nice leather price range. I would look first at which ones offer free shipping, and go from there. Also, always remember to read the ratings on the product, if it is something you are unfamiliar with. I have saved myself a lot of agony on purchasing something by reading the reviews first.

Consumer Cafe: German Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

November 9th, 2012

YUM! Don’t these look spectacular? I found this recipe in my Southern Living magazine, and just had to share!

German Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

  • 3 cups pecan halves and pieces
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate morsels
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake pecans in a single layer in a shallow pan 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly toasted and fragrant, stirring halfway through.
  2. Line bottom and sides of a 13- x 9-inch pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil, allowing 2 to 3 inches to extend over sides. Lightly grease foil.
  3. Pulse flour and next 3 ingredients in a food processor 5 to 6 times or until mixture resembles coarse meal. Press mixture on bottom and 3/4 inch up sides of prepared pan.
  4. Bake crust at 350° for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, and sprinkle chocolate morsels over crust. Cool completely on a wire rack (about 30 minutes).
  5. Whisk together brown sugar and next 3 ingredients until smooth. Stir in coconut and toasted pecans, and spoon into prepared crust.
  6. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden and set. Cool completely on a wire rack (about 1 hour). Chill 1 hour. Lift baked bars from pan, using foil sides as handles. Transfer to a cutting board; cut into bars.
