Glam Alert: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat

January 12th, 2012

All time favorite of mine.  Probably for over 15 years I wore this as a concealer.  Then as I got older, I needed a LOT of concealer, so I started searching for something more intended as a concealer and used the Touche Eclat for what it was intended, and that is a highlighter. I will tell you that I remember distinctly one day my boss (who is a woman) being shocked that she saw two lines between my eyebrows that she had never seen before. Guess what? I had actually been running late that day and skipped putting the Touche Eclat on! I use it between the brows still to this day. I use it under the eyes but after another concealer.  So, if you are younger, try this as a concealer, and if you are a woman of a particular age, try it as either a concealer or a highlighter and see what works best for you. But whatever you do, try it! It is magic in a twist tube.

My son tells me I should drop the beauty tips because only girls in their twenties should be giving beauty tips.  Yep, those were his exact words. Let me know if you think he is right.

Website of the Week: lampsplus.com

January 11th, 2012

I catch myself spending hours on this site. You can find any kind of light fixture or lampshade you can imagine.

I kinda have a lamp addiction.  I have six lamps in my living room alone, and I turn them on every night.  In total I have 19 lamps that I turn on every evening.  I think it makes the house so cozy.  I am constantly searching for new lamps or new shades or new light fixtures.  It’s a problem, I know, but I have many more serious than this one!

They have both traditional and contemporary lamp styles. Table lamps, accent lamps, desk lamps, floor lamps, ceiling lights, outdoor lights, and wall sconces.

Lampsplus also carries ceiling fans. I know all the home decorating shows always take out the ceiling fans, but in Texas, honey child, you cannot survive without ceiling fans! I have one in every room, including the bathroom.

I have never been disappointed with anything I have purchased from lampsplus.  So keep them in mind if you are going to need new household lights, or if you want to buy me a lamp.

Girl Power! Pink Household Tool Kit

January 10th, 2012

Many, many years ago when I was single, I needed a small toolbox for hanging pictures, minor repairs, etc. I purchased a toolbox made just for women. It has a cute baby blue toolbox, with baby blue hammer, screwdriver, and a few other things that have been lost over the years. When I married, my husband had his big manly toolkit with 6,000 things in it.  I kept my girly toolbox, and it is still the only one I reach for.

I found this great 135 piece household tool kit and put it on my wish list.

This set includes an 100 piece fastener set, a 4.8 volt cordless screwdriver, an 18 mm utility knife, 10 1-inch CRV screwdriver bits (1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, PH1, PH2, PH3, PZ1, PZ2, PZ3, 10 1-inch CRV screwdriver bits (T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4) an 8-inch scissors, an 8-ounce claw hammer, four precision screwdrivers (Phillips #0, Phillips #1, slotted 2.4 mm, slotted 3.0mm), UL electrical tape, 6-inch long nose pliers, a 9-inch plastic magnetic level, a 12-foot-by-5/8-inch measuring tape, a 6-inch adjustable wrench, a UL recharger, and a 2-inch putty knife. There’s no assembly required, either, so getting going is a snap.

I like how there is a slot for everything. Things might not get misplaced when you go to put it up and see an empty slot. I’ve always wanted a cordless screwdriver too, so that would be a handy addition to my collection.

App of the Week: 5-0 Radio Pro

January 9th, 2012

I’ve decided to start doing an “App of the Week” since there are six hundred and seventy four billion apps out there. My numbers may be off a little. So, if you have a favorite app please share in the comments section.

5-0 Radio Pro is an app that I have had on my iPhone for a few years. I finally got to use it on New Year’s Eve after there was a bank robbery in my son’s area and he called to see if I could figure out why helicopters and policemen with dogs were all over his neighborhood. Why yes, son, I can tell you that. Within seconds I was listening to his town’s police scanner and finding out that there was a bank robbery and the suspect had fled into my son’s neighborhood and they were searching every house.

Me being the Gladys Kravitz that I am, the 5-0 Radio Pro is right up my alley. The 5-0 Radio Pro has over 35,000 live police, firefighter, emergency medical ambulance, air traffic control, railroad, and even music stations from all over the world. You can save your stations to favorites, for quick access. The scanner also includes the codes for police and fire so you know what they are talking about as you listen. You can even listen to the scanner while using another app.

I had the free version at first (and this was a few years ago so my memory isn’t so clear) but I think it didn’t offer any scanners in my area, which would be why I would want it.

So I guess I’m sort of a modern day ham radio nerd, huh?
